Still work to do
October 7th, 2008 by FrankThe Chicago Blackhawks made some interesting moves today to work their way in getting themselves under the salary cap prior to the season opener. While there still could be some changes, these moves are not final and there will be more.
Defensemen Cam Barker and Aaron Johnson were both sent to Rockford, along with goaltender Antii Niemi. It was predicted that Barker would make the club, however he carries a contract over 2 million dollars, and right now there’s no room for him. The status of goaltender Corey Crawford remains in question along with the future of Nikolai Khabibulin. If the Hawks are not able to work out a deal with the KHL, then it looks like the Bulin wall goes to Rockford as well.
In addition to these moves, Kevyn Adams was released and Joakim Lindstrom was picked up by the Anahiem Ducks. Stay tuned as more is likely to happen. It will be interesting to see what actually happens with Khabibulin and the goaltending situation. If the Hawks have a questionable spot, this is it. In addition there is the question of what happens with Keith Carney who was back on a tryout basis.
